Hey all! I'm normally a costumer, but I design and make jewelry on the sidelines ;).

I've currently semi-finished a line of 'The Hobbit' inspired pieces, including tributes to Mirkwood, the Shire and the Dwarves!

All available through my Etsy! http://www.etsy.com/shop/elvishtard

I'm selling a lot of my costume pieces on ebay. I lost my job today and I'm on the verge of being homeless if I don't get some quick cash. Please take a look. One of the pieces is the headpiece I had designed based on Arwen's coronation crown.

I know alot of people on this community have attended Dragon*Con every year, if not atleast once in their lives. If you have, you probably have seen, talked to, passed by, laughed with, or have done something with Melissa Kern. Especially if you're strong in the Lord of the Rings community, Harry Potter community or even anime.

Mel has helped out and headed up the Young Adult Lit track at DCon, as well as the Tolkien tracks. She has worked security at Anime Weekend Atlanta and various other Sci-Fi/Fantasy events around Atlanta including Mythic Journeys.

First and foremost, Mel is one of my closest friends and in December she was diagnosed with ALS, also know as Lou Gerrigs disease. Unfortunitely the form of the disease she has is rapid and 9 times out of 10, fatal. Though everyone is hoping for some sort of turnaround, or maybe a slower progression of the disease, (see Stephen Hawkin).

What I bring to you today is a plea to sign an online petition that her husband has started to try and make a dream of hers come true.

Please read further:

As most of you know, my wife Melissa "Fiver" Kern has been diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. In September, she marched with fellow Lord of the Rings fans in the annual DragonCon parade, but six months later, she needs help walking, dressing and using stairs.

I wanted to do something for Melissa, to show her the impact that she's had on people, in the Lord of the Rings communities and beyond. To that end, I have put together a petition online. I call it "Project FIVER" (after her name on the community websites), and it is a petition to have New Line cast her as a Hobbit extra in THE HOBBIT. We don't know the course her disease will take, so she worries that she won't be around to see the movies in theaters, so this was the next best thing.

If you wouldn't mind, please sign the petition. Feel free to share the link with others, but PLEASE keep this from Melissa for the time being! I want to reveal it to her when the time is right. (Thus the locked post)

Thanks to each of you for being a good friend to her.

I'm selling two of my costumes that I never wear any more: Rosie's Wedding Dress from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Christine's Don Juan Opera Gown from Phantom of the Opera. Both include custom, steel-boned corset/bodice. Here are the listings and links to galleries that have more pictures than eBay:

Hey everyone! Long time since I've posted here! *waves*

I've recently finished a new Lord of the Rings gown! YAY! I decided about a month ago that I didn't want to wear my court garb to Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire (one of the other faires in MI, I'm not on cast there :P) and I just didn't feel like being Celebrian (plus not being able to find my elf ears! Remembered last week that I had lent them out to a friend of mine who needs them for his fae outfit for fest) so I decided that since I'm a blonde, I was going to make an Eowyn gown! I've always wanted to make one of them decided that SLRF was the reason. :)

Originally I had wanted to go with Eowyn's White Wool but immediately thought of the muddiness of faire and/or dustiness (for whatever weather/Greco-Roman deity statue decided to grace our presence :P). I went with Eowyn's Green Gown because I love the colour green, it looked relatively easy to alter a pattern I have to make it, and my old overskirt had the perfect amount of yardage for the task. :)

The dress is made of velveteen, most of it dyed from the olive colour that you see in the "underdress" (aka the yoke, 'forepart', and sleeve linings which is just a cheat for an underdress) to the new colour in the overdress. And I know you're all thinking, "Weren't you hot in that?" (I was asked plenty by passing patrons and cast alike :P). I was very comfortable in that dress. I chose velveteen because it breathes and that's also what I use for my court garb. The skirt was nice and flowy, the sleeves caught the wind a lot, and all in all, I was cooler than I am in my court garb. And I could DRIVE in it! :D While, yes I can drive in hoops and all, it's a lot more comfy driving for an hour in Eowyn garb.

The gown was a success! The Lord of the Rings fans who approached me knew who I was and liked the gown. I actually responded to Eowyn (once I put on the dress I get into character). And I even got a mini photoshoot with, in my humble opinion, one of the most amazing fest photographers ever! :D

Here's a full shot of me as Eowyn from the amazing Goldfrost

Here's a close up of me (earrings, circlet, and necklace all bought at SLRF. Earrings from Things from Rings, I unfortunately don't remember what the names of the shops the circlet and necklace are from.)

Later in the day, a cast member, Sir Gawaine, approached me and challenged me to bunny fencing. Naturally I accepted and Eowyn ended up beating Gawaine. (After an unfortunate rematch but it was worth it. :P) Here's me going after his last balloon during the rematch.

There ya go!
